Oddly
enough, these little varmints grow wild in Iowa -- the eastern counties, of
course. They are considered threatened by our Department of Natural
Resources (hm, that could be interpreted two ways) and are thus illegal to
capture from the wild (in Iowa). Of course, the DNR thinks Iowans
can be trusted only with garter snakes and green turtles. Anyway, if you
capture an Iowa eastern newt (or any other Iowa newt) you are in such big
trouble ...
