I am trying to find a supplier of green swordtails for research purposes. If you know of any supplier, please could you send me their contact information? Thanks, A: www.apetinc.com LA Hal Davies, April 12, 2011 A: Sorry. None available right now. Be sure to call 515 283-0300 for a much quicker answer. LA
A: Sorry for the slow response, Bob. My brain went thru a slow phase. Usually 24 hours is sufficient -- usually about the same time the acetic acid smell goes away. I don't know if the window and door silicon will hold up underwater. The aquarium sealer costs four to six times as much, but it holds up underwater for decades. LA
Robin Adair, Kansas, April 13, 2011
I and and a buddy caught these in a sseine and we're trying to figure out what they are?
A: Looks like a native killifish to me. Closest I can determine -- the plains topminnow, Fundulus sciadicus You may want to contact the North American Native Fish Association (their forum) for a more definitive answer. LA
Robin Adair, Kansas, April 17, 2011
Well the silver fish i sent a picture of are actually silverside shinners. that NANFA page you gave me really helped out, took a bit to figure out but hey. turns out i ended up w/ about 5-6 different kinds of fish in that seine catch. a hand full of ghost shrimp in ks, logperch darters- awsome, rainbow darters, baby largemouths, channel cats, and a whole lot more random minnows and shiners. who knew there were so many amazing things to find in a creek. thanks for your help..... till next time. A: Glad to help. Sorry but we don't sell anything over the internet. Kansas is not that long a drive. In fact I'm headed down that way fairly soon. (No dates because of booglars on the web.) LA Angela Zhang, Anhui, China, April
14, 2011 A: Because your websites end with "cn," I don't think they'll interfere with mine. Thanks. LA
Jason Carter, Mabank, TX, April 14, 2011
Hello, my name is Jason Carter and I am a Internet marketing professional. I had done a Google search under the keyword ball python skin problems and had run across your website aqualandpetsplus.com. I see that you are not listed on the first page of Google for your particular search. I am not sure if you're aware of why you're ranked this low but more importantly how easily correctable this is. There's no reason that you can't have top three rankings for the keyword ball python skin problems based on your website structure and content. You have a very nice site. What you need is high quality one-way anchor text links. I can help you with this..... Not only can I get you ranked for the keyword ball python skin problems but I am talking about all of your keywords on top of Google. Adding new high quality PR anchor-text links from the highest quality websites will produce the results and business you want for aqualandpetsplus.com. (plus twice as much more copy) A: I'm not trying to be #1 in ball python skin problems. I have enough trouble keeping up with the Qs as it is. Thanks anyway. LA
Brenda Strong, Internet Marketing Specialist, April 14, 2011
Your website looks great, but it's missing out on a lot of internet traffic due to where you rank in the search engines. With some minor changes you can greatly improve your rankings in the primary search engines and earn more business. To have our technicians perform a free target market/website analysis for your business and explain what our company can do for you please request one by sending a reply to this email using the business access code listed below along with your website and business contact information. A: I'll pass. Please remove. LA
Katherine Christmas, Illinois, April 14, 2011
My daughter had a pet garden snail for about a year and it died recently. We are hoping to replace it but cannot find any for sale and I don't believe they are native around here (Illinois). Do you sell them or have any recommendations? The one we had was found on an annual plant we bought at the store. Many thanks,
A: We can't really ship snails. Guess what? The Fieldbook of Illinois Land Snails lists 122 species of land snails in your state. Your best bet at caturing one in the wilds of IL is to go out directly after a light rain and check out your local low to the ground greenery -- particulatly hostas. Look on the underside of the leaves. LA
Sam Gaines, Renton, WA, April 16, 2011
today i was reading your leaf fish page and stumbled upon your picture of an Asain leaf fish and recognized it to be a nandus (Nandus nandus) they grow to about 8 in and prefer mostly livefoods and they like hard and alkline water ranging from 72-79 degrees. hope i helped. PS your website is awesome! never been misinformed. A: Well, I try to be accurate, but sometimes my not so humble opinions are just plain opinions. I'm adding your input to my leaf fish page. LA

Hi, I just wanted to tell you thanks for all your hard work with making absolutely the best fish website on the net!!! I can not tell you how much I appreciate all of the info you have provided on such a large variety of animals and plants! You will forever be on my favorites list lol And if I am ever in Des Moines I will absolutely stop by your store because it must be amazing!!! :-) Just wanted to let you know that I sincerely do appreciate all of your time and dedication! A: Thanks for your thanks, but my website is kind of a compulsion. And besides the compulsion factor, I have four ulterior motives. LA
Lois Brynes, Rockport, MA, April 16, 2011
What do you use for moss ball fertilizer? Do you add it to the tank or when you are "cleaning" them off. THANKS in advance! I really enjoyed your moss ball log. A: Oddly enough, I've never added fertilizer. I just move them to different tanks from time to time. LA
Lois Brynes, Rockport, MA, April 21, 2011
Thanks so much for taking the time to answer.
One more, please.
So are your tanks only algae OR do you have fish in them as
well??
A: The tanks usually have some sort of critter or critters that produce fertilizer. LA
Lois Brynes, Rockport, MA, April 21, 2011
Only critters in my tank are the Marimos!!! So no good poop stuff! LBA: In that case, I'd add a bit of fertilizer.
I like SeaChem's Fluorish. LA Amy Jennings, West Des Mines, IA,
April 17, 2011 A: 7012. Be sure to read their FAQs. Sorry for the delay in answering you. Phone calls are much quicker -- especially from places as far away as West Des Moines. LA
A: Thanks, Sam. I
couldn't access your website but your pix came across pretty
well. I'll put these on my Misc Betta Pix page. Keep
up the good work.
Maraming salamat.
LA Samantha Natividad (13), Valenzuela,
Philippines, April 20, 2011 A: How soon is your Betta Show
in the Philippines? I don't have an official Aqualand
photographer in your area. How'd you like to take pictures
for us? I'll build a new "page" for your photos. Be
sure to put your name on each one. I'm out of Aqualand
T-shirts right now but I'll send you one as soon as I get new
ones. What size do you wear? LA
Paula Dick, April 18, 2011
Hi, your website was the only one I found that didn't make me feel guilty or like I was doing something wrong to have bought a hi fin banded shark. They basically said that it would die and do not buy one. I didn't know what I had bought actually until I tried to find it on the Internet. When I got up 2 days after I had bought it it's top fin appeared to be split, in 2 to 3 places, so I tried to find this fish on line to see what had happened to it, or if it was sick. That is how I knew I had a hi fin banded shark. By the way is it sick? I thought maybe it was being bullied by one of the other fish.
I took all my fish back to the fish shop this morning and
just kept a few guppies, until they get big enough to take
in. I have an algae eater in there now with the hi fin. I
read that they like to school, do I need to get 1 or 2 more
hi fins?
Is there any specific thing I need to do to make sure this
little guy lives a good, long life? I seen on your website
to have running water. How do I go about doing that other
than having a filter?
I guess what I need to ask is - can you tell me what to do
to ensure it's survival? I just really want him to live and
don't want him to die. Thank you,
A: Split fins are not a disease and usually heal quite fast. I'm surprised you don't have a filter. Adding a powerhead would run your filter and provide a nice current. These guys seem less common these days, however I see they're on today's list -- about the same price as last year. No need to feel guilty about buying one. They make a fun fish to watch. Add another one and they'll cavort even better. LA
Floyd Godbey, Indiana, April 18, 2011
Good evening. Hope all is well. I am trying to buy 50 or so Aponogeton ulvaceous bulbs and have met with little success locating the bulbs. In looking at your internet site, I see that you have quite a bit of experience with these plants. My question is do you sell the bulbs and can you ship them to southern Indiana? If not can you give me some directions to where I might be able to get the bulbs. Any assistance you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Please reply to absw@insightbb.com. By the way, I like your web site. It is very interesting. Thank you and beset regards, A: You'll need lots and lots of room to house 50 A. ulvaceous. Two "adults" will fill a 55. I get mine from www.apetinc.com. Your order won't quite meet their minimum order requirement and they sell only to licensed retail establishments. They do deliver to Indiana and probably will deliver to your local fish store. Coördinate with your LFS. LA
Dru Soni, West Chicago, IL, April 19, 2011

you have it please let me know and I will drive out to pick
them up. also please provide price as well. I look forward
to hearing back. if you do not have one of these and would
be able to help locate these for me I would be very thank
ful of you.
thank you very much.
??A: Excellent picture of this speedy Gonzales of the catfish world -- much better than any of the pix on my blue shark page. We have none in stock today and none on this week's availability list. We get them from time to time, but I can't say when we will next get them. Oddly enough, we get ours from a wholesaler in Chicago. I would think they'd be available in your locale. LA
Michael Kutnock, April 19, 2011

Jackie Auxter, Iowa, April 19, 2011
Do you currently have any chinchillas or will you be getting any in the near future?
A: I don't really know. Call me @ 283-0300 before noon tomorrow and I can tell you. If we're out, we can get new ones fast. LA Dave Faber, Spencer, IA, April 19,
2011
A: We have none in stock today and none on this week's availability list. I haven't seen them on any lists for months. As an aside, they are nasty little beasts. They beat the crap out of African cichlids. You can read more about them on USD Gold Flake LA
Cellular Promotion, South Arica, April 19, 2011
A first in SA, a cellular contract with a funeral policy (10,000 Rand) as a value added. A: Cool beans (as we used to say a couple decades ago -- even cooler than the little bells that Edgar Allen Poe wrote about for cataleptics. LA
