Hello, I was wondering if you're currently hiring or will be hiring in the near future. I'm a freshman at Drake university studying pre-vet and I'd really like some experience working with animals. Thank you!

A:  You sounds like a perfect candidate but we have no openings at this tome.  Our current renovations are pretty much holding us back.  LA
PS.  I was a freshman at Drake eons ago.. We didn't exactly write on stone tablets but we did use those 100-key adding machines in our accounting lab classes.

Karly O'Connor, Des Moines, IA, October 12, 2011
100-key adding machines? Oh snap, I won't ask what year you graduated then. If you ever need more help don't hesitate to shoot me an e-mail!

A  Actually, I matriculated in '57.  Then it took me a little longer than the average student to graduate.  But, who wants to be average?  LA

LA, I don't want to pester you with plenty of questions, but i have this one quick question. :)Would you please answer this? :)
My tank size is : -
length -     2feet  6 inches
breadth -  1feet  3inches
height-      1feet  3inches
How many Oscars and Parrot fishes can I keep in there? :)
Can I keep 2 Parrots and 3 Oscars? (All juveniles)

A:  You can keep double that amount of juveniles.  However, the oscars will soon intimidate your parrots.  LA

Hello! I just wanted to send you a quick email to say thank you for your webpage. I work for a library and host weekend activities for middle school aged children and every year near the end October we have a pets celebration day. A lot of the librarians/teachers bring in their pets, and we all learn about caring for and respecting animals. Your page had some great pet resources that we will be able to share with the kids. Just wanted to say thanks for all the help! :-)
One of the girls in my group, Melanie, found a great resource on aquarium care during computer time that I thought I'd share with you, http://www.krilloil.com/all-about-fish-krill-algae-and-more-resources-for-aquarium-owners.html. Could you add this to your list? She's a little shy around the other girls, so I thought showing them all your page with her link on it would help her stand out a little more. Plus, I thought it would make a great addition to your page for others looking for information. Thanks again, and happy autumn. :-) Take care,

A:  Glad to help.  LA

I'm getting a 60 gallon pond for Christmas (setting it up in spring) i am getting a heater and filter. I want to stock it with some cichlids from a pet store. what would be the best for this idea?

LA

A:  Most ponders prefer goldfish for outdoor ponds.  They don't need heaters and they show up much better than cichlids in a pond.  LA

Hi Larry, We are having an open house at Mosaic Treasures on November 19. Would you be interested in donating a gift certificate or an item and in return your business would be advertised during the open house and in any promotional information we do leading up to the open house. I would come and talk to you personally about this, but I never know when you are there.

Open House November 19

A:  Sure we'll donate some Gift Certificates or a Tarantula if you prefer.  I'm at Aqualand everyday until noon, sometimes later.  LA
PS  I'm putting the above notice on our Home Page until you have your Open House.

My fire-bellied toads and I will be wintering in Altoona, IA.  Are crickets available near there? Thanks you for any information you can share with this So Cal toad lover.

LA

A:  Sure.  Altoona's just up the road from Aqualand.  We get at least 6,000 crickets every Friday.  LA
PS  Most people go south in the winter and come back to Iowa in the spring.

Hello, I was just checking to see what all you had available for medium-large sized birds? I've been hunting around for a meyers, eclectus, cockatoo, lory or anything along those lines. Do you get much in for that type of bird or could you point me in the right direction? I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

A:  I was just in our bird room this morning but I don't remember what was in all the cages.  Call Kellie at 283-0300.  She's our bird person and can give you a telephone tour of our birds.  LA
