Dave Lockard lives near
Aqualand -- a little over a mile as the crow flies. In his living
room, bedroom, and basement he keeps dozens of birds -- a few little guys
like a canary and two parakeets, but mostly big hookbills of various
species. He invited us to his avian abode.

Here's Dave and a hefty harlequin Macaw.

In his living room, he keeps an eclectus. She has her own tape
player.
LA
This little conure doesn't want to play today.
LA
These two friendly conures get along in the same cage.
LA
Half of a brace of hand-fed cinnamon conures.
LA
Most of Dave's avian buddies live in this section of his basement.
LA
Each critter gets one hour of out-of-cage activity daily.
LA
Jack will have none of it. He's too uppity to learn to
"up" when ordered.
LA
This guy looks better when he yells and flares his orange hood. He's
a bit camera-shy now.
LA
And this cockatoo also clams up when the camera shows up.
LA
Not Captain. He wants to eat the camera.
LA
Normally very friendly, he's now ready to "up."
LA
Yes, he talks -- a lot.
LA
In the other part of his basement, Dave has some breeding pairs.
LA
Pionus colors catch your eye.
LA
Kellie and Janie at the other end of Dave's basement.
Last Word:
Anything worth doing is worth overdoing. Just ask Dave. LA
