Apology: I looked via Google to
find some info on these relatively new to Des Moines shrimps.
Searching for Macrobrachium lamarrei lamarrei, I was
surprised that my little collection of pictures came up #1 on the list.
My page didn't say much. It just contained an assortment of pictures taken
earlier this year (2010). Believe me, whisker shrimp are hard to
photograph -- especially in a planted tank Impossible might be a
better word. Anyway, I'm adding more info and pictures to this
supposedly #1 site for these shrimp. LA
LA
Whisker shrimp blend into the woodwork.
LA
Even captured in a net, they're still hard to see (and even harder to
photograph).
LA
You can see them better on your hand to give you a better clue to their
size.
LA
LA
No claws (or "clips" as the Germans say) so they fit into a community tank
of small fish such as neon tetras.
LA
LA
You can see their latest food up behind their eyes.
LA
The swimmerets under their abdomen never stop moving. You can't even
see them.

LA
Very similar to ghost shrimps. Longer nose.

LA
Whisker shrimp show up best in bare tanks.
LA
One on left snacking on algae or other green food earlier.
LA
Whisker shrimp on the left.
Ghost Shrimp on the
right. Not much difference.
LA
The smaller shrimps are young Amano (Algae-Eating Shrimp)
shrimps.
LA
Adult algae-eating shrimp.
LA
Fueled with green fish food flakes.
LA
Still looking for more snacks.
LA
Whisker shrimp love sinking pellets.
LA
Finally, a half-way decent pic.
Last Words. Indian whisker
shrimp make excellent scavengers in small community aquaria. Do not
mix them with large fish. LA
