Tarantula Night 2006. Normally our local
tarantula fans get together around Halloween for an officially
sanctioned TarantulaWeen. Well, Paul (our staff Tarantula
Herder) decided we needed to talk about tarantulas more than once a
year -- thus, Tarantula Night 2006.
LA
Susan Albee and Paul Greene, our official speakers.
The Official Program. Tarantula keepers
(and wannabes) start from a widely (maybe even wildly) varied
knowledge base. Sue and Paul want to put everyone on a firm base
of knowledge that will enable them to keep their tarantulas
successfully. They discussed the “easy keepers” and pointed
out the drawbacks of some of the harder to keep species.

Paul, our official Tarantula Herder, extolling the virtues of natural
sponges.
Paul Greene. At home, Paul keeps only two
tarantulas (and two kids). However, he also cleans, feeds, and
waters the 80 or so Aqualand tarantulas. He’s developed a wide
knowledge base of the dozens of varieties available -- from the mild
to the wild and from the easily affordable to the not so easily
affordable. He brought his fuzzy little buddy “fuzzy” to
illustrate how she cleans her own living quarters.

Sue Albee brought 18 species of her personal tarantulas from home.

Some of the various species Sue brought with her.
Sue Albee. We have no idea how many
arachnids Sue has at home. She shared 18 species with the
audience. Actually, Sue used to work at Aqualand about six kids
ago, so we’ve known her quite awhile. Her tarantula interest
(and tarantula knowledge) continue to grow.

Many questions were asked. Very few went unanswered.
LA
Tarantulas up close and as personal as you want to get.
LA
Some were more fascinated with tarantulas than others.

You can't have an official Tarantula Event without Pepsi (and
chocolate).
Pepsi Note. Only one can of Pepsi was spilled
during the entire meeting -- an official Aqualand record.
LA
Then we broke into discussion groups.

Perfect molt -- one of the many displays.

Thanks Sue. Thanks, Paul. Will we see you at TanantulaWeen
9?
Tarantula Winner. At the end of the
meeting, Adam Scarlett won a rose hair tarantula and habitat. LA
