Prologue: Kathy Potts has some
very nice fish and the ability to make them visible to you. I've asked
her what equipment she uses. She answers at the end of this page.

I had just cleaned
the 75 gallon tank which this guy resides in and he
simply had no appreciation of the maid service. I
wrecked his spawning spot :-( He made a point of
letting me know of his disapproval. As you can see
from the two pics below, he would excavate a
mouthful of gravel, look straight at me, and then
spit the gravel out so it would hit the glass. I
just get no respect.

Last Words: Here's the camera
equipment Kathy uses. LA

I use a Canon Power Shot A560. Indoor setting with
flash, Macro Zoom on. It has 7.1 mega pixels. Sometimes I use a
Canon PowerShot A2000IS with 10.0 mega pixels, but it takes up so
much space on my computer, I almost ALWAYS opt for the 7.1 mega
pixel. No fancy cameras here.

Not long ago, someone asked me how I was
able to get such good photos of fish in an aquarium. This was my
response to her (below).
Let me add
this to the pointers below. You can improve the quality of your photos
with a simple editing program. I use ArcSoft PhotoStudio 4 for Canon.
It is an older version, but it has some neat features. My computer
which is a Mac Mini also has a small editing program on it. It is
iPhoto '08, version 7.1.4 (371). I still don't know how to use all the
features on the ArcSoft PhotoStudio program, but I get by. Teaching old
dogs new tricks still presents a problem :-) even now days.

And take lots and lots of shots. I have also found that
taking the photos at night with all the indoor lights turned
off helps some. Also, the darker your clothing, say a black
shirt, helps with reflections. The flashback and glare are
affected by the angle with which you hold the camera. Also,
the more light you have on the top of your aquarium the
better. Any smudges on the glass or bubbles in the water
will show up.
Don't know if this will help.
Give it your best shot over and over again and good luck!!
