When I was browsing your site I noticed your Texas
Spawning II. I myself own 5 Texas and a Tex x jack
dempsey hybrid. I believe the fish on Texas
Spawning II are jack dempsey x Texas crosses.
Although they are beautiful, I feel you should
inform any buyers of the fish that they are
hybrids.
A: I do believe you are right.
Thanks. LA
LA
Traded in as a pair and put into a 20H.
LA
Male the larger of the two. Typical.
LA
Male not only larger but decidedly more colorful. Young, so no
nuchal bump.
LA
Female less colorful with her breeding tube showing already.
LA
Their breeding tank. Piece of flat sandstone buried beneath the
gravel.
LA
Male quite protective.
LA
Some interaction between the pair.
LA
Female more interactive in the process than the male.
LA
She was more likely to retreat into her cave. The male would often
follow her.
LA
Convicts make better than average dither fish. They're quite speedy.
LA
But not always speedy enough. We replaced him with six rosy reds,
which they ignored.
LA
The pair quickly discovered the flat sand stone and unearthed it.
LA
We reburied the flat rock several times to try to time the spawning
process.
LA
We figured they couldn't spawn if we kept burying the flat stone.
LA
They spawned when we not looking. (Without the flat rock, they would
spawn on the UG filter.)
LA
The female fiercely defended her eggs. You can see bit of algae
wiper she ripped off.
LA
The male just hung out. We used a net to protect our hand from the
female.
LA
Lots and lots of Texas cichlid eggs.
LA
We'll report on their progress as time and a half goes by.
LA
After we swiped their spawning site, they dug down to the filter plate.
LA
11-5-06. All the eggs died.
