Prologue. Keo used to work for us a decade or so
ago. He’s recently gone a little nuts for flowerhorns.
He has some choice ones in his home, and plans to breed them and
become an International Flowerhorn Magnate. Well, he’s off
to a good start. Here’s some of his flowerhorns (with some
of my comments thrown in for free). LA
LA
Choice eight-inch female with belly full of eggs. No breeding
tube showing. Color a bit yellow due to excess food in the
water. His foods contain anthaxanthin which enhances red
coloration. However, he overfed so much that his water turned
yellow.
LA
Same fish much closer to the front glass, so her colors are truer
here. She has not dropped her breeding tube yet.
LA
Obvious male in same tank looks smaller due to cropping that
includes his fin extensions. He's really just a smidge larger
than her. He's moved nearly all the gravel from his under
gravel filter plate.
LA
He's showing much truer colors here because he's closer to the front
glass. Too bad that he was turning as this picture
snapped. Would you believe it took nearly 30 tries to come up
with these four pictures?
LA
This 18-inch Jardini arowanna insisted on posing, So I took his
picture.
LA
Keo says he's five or six years old and was raised in an indoor
pond.
LA
Keo's also expecting to breed his discus.
One-Week Break. At this point my camera’s battery
ran out. I forgot to charge it last night. It snaps
hundreds of pictures, but it insists on an occasional
recharging. So we drove across town and tried to go to lunch
at the Lucky Dragon. They’re closed Tuesdays, so we
lunched at Pho Hadao where I tried their papaya bubble
tea.. Thanks for buying my lunch, Keo. We then walked over to the Double Dragon
market. I filled a small basket with some tasty looking
Oriental foods and headed home. LA
Two Weeks Later (Feb 28, 2006). Alright, so it took
a little longer than expected. We took a couple hundred
pictures and winnowed them down to a few dozen. I’ll include
the pictures and Keo will give me their names (since I have no clue
what each variant is called). Two positives: 1)
Keo cleaned most of his tank fronts; and 2) Keo now
knows how to take pictures with his own digital camera (thanks to LA’s
five-minute camera course).

Epilog. Well, Keo never gave me their names, so I'm
posting his flowerhorns without their names. Go to KEO II for
