December 19. Here's the first page we were able to create
since we fried our hard drive on November 27. In some ways it
helps to get a new hard drive. Of course, you lose years of files
and take beau coup days to re-install all your soft ware.
However, 750 GBs allow you to make mistakes several times faster.

November 26, 2006. We spent several hours the day after
Thanksgiving in Lawrence, Kansas enjoying a tour of

We were impressed. A busy young fellow named Shane gave us
carte blanche to look things over and take pictures (and steal
ideas).
We thought you'd enjoy seeing the site also. If you're ever in
Lawrence, be sure to scope out their operation.. LA
LA
First off, you gotta love a place that keeps a herd of turtles -- in
this case, four or five breeder sulcata tortoises. You get some idea of
their size from this picture.
LA
But that also means you need to explain what's going on here to the
younger members of the tribe. The male Sulcata tortoise makes a
loud "chuffing" in the process.
LA
And as a result, they have these little two-inchers at a very
competitive price.
LA
Pet World carries a good selection of tortoise/terrapins/turtles.
The red-legged tortoises here look over-nutriented -- our only criticism
of the entire operation. You really can't do much about pyramided
shells.
LA
Small Greek tortoise.
LA
A seldom seen mata-mata turtle -- a not so good swimmer that needs
shallow water. They use their very long necks to reach the surface
for air.
LA
Pet World had a wall of small display cages containing various herptiles.
Here's one of their snakes that I can't remember the name of (a rare
occurrence). These small herpitats displayed their critters to
good advantage.

Hi again, I was looking at your Pet World page and wanted to let you
know that snake is a Western Hognose.
A: Thanks. I added your info to the page. LA
LA
The Argentine horned frogs showed well.
LA
Nice looking tiger salamander.
LA
And the ever popular bearded dragon.
LA
Plus all the supplies and display materials customers need to care for
their herptilles.
LA
here's a very customer-friendly way to house parakeets. They're in
a low walled pen that makes them accessible to customers visually and
physically. Obviously their wings were trimmed.
LA
At the other end of the scale you'll see a not often seen rosy cockatoo.
LA
In the mid-size range we see a couple of conures grooming each other.
LA
An interesting betta display priced as "fish" and "fish plus bowl."
All are housed over black gravel.
LA
Before we get to their fish displays, here's a nice looking mini-crab
colony.
LA
Ditto with this hermit crab colony.
LA
Nice looking group of two-inch red devils. We like cichlids.
LA
Nice selection of oddballs -- not just one or two.
LA
And some unusual combinations. Plenty of these high-finned sharks
with discus.
LA
With these guys mixed in. Intriguing. They all were in very
large aquaria.
LA
And, of course, plenty of the regular community fishes.
LA
Nearly all of their tanks were planted.
LA
Their large display tanks were exceptionally well planted with live
plants. Two of these bow front corner tanks were put together to
make a very attractive end cap.
LA
Here's the other half of this end cap. Really nice touch.
In Summary. If you live within 100 miles of Lawrence, Kansas,
you will want to take a tour of Pet World. Take your checkbook
with you. LA
