In the 30s, Iowa strip mines yielded bituminous coal and mounds of reddish dirt
debris.

Ground water eventually filled these pits and nature took over.

Ranging from four to fifteen deep these ponds yield little fish life.

Still, hope springs eternal in the angler's breast. They keep trying.

these pits twice a year with trout -- a cold water fish.
