Prologue:
TarantulaWeen 2010 Part 1 deals with
the crowd -- somewhat larger than we expected so we
ran out of chairs. The large turnout was mostly due to Paul's efforts at
signing up interested people. He went a little overboard on the
refreshments, but that's a chance we had to take. Mike "resourced" the
door prizes (thanks Zilla) and arranged the room. He should have
made it larger. LA prepared the tarantula color IDs and Kellie worked
as sergeant of arms controlling the crowd. She was also supposedly
videotaping the gathering but that's another story. Joe Mastous made
the presentation with the aid of his nubile assistant (Paul). Joe also
arranged for the 25 pink toe spiderlings.
TarantulaWeen 2010 Part
2 will feature Joe's advanced part of the event (the
scientific side). This was a slide presentation, very difficult to
reproduce here.
LA
Most of you probably recognize Kendall. He's been around this entire
century.
LA
You may not recognize CJ. He's only been with us a bit over a month.
He's scoping out the IDs.
LA
You also may not recognize CJ's new tarantula. He's only had it less
than an hour.
LA
Here's Dave finishing up today's bookwork. He's a birdman -- not a
spiderman.
LA
Kellie was supposed to tape the meeting but the giant spider evidently
distracted her.
LA
So Paul helped her not videotape the presentation.
LA
Joe and Paul our main presenters (a round of applause, please).
LA
Here's a telephone photographer.
LA
Tarantulas are amazingly popular among short people.
LA
This kid asked an amazing number of questions.
LA
If you wonder why we took so many kid pictures, it's because they were
better looking than the adults.
LA
Tarantulas were everywhere.
LA
There were other critters to look at.
LA
And they loved our tarantula cookies.
LA
Who could resist a tasty tarantula. Good thing we had a bunch.
LA
Paul had these specially made for us by Hiland Park Bakery across the street
from Aqualand.
LA
Paul also found gummy tarantulas -- not quite as tasty.
LA
We also provided Tarantula color IDs.
LA
Not everyone loved the tarantula IDs.
LA
We had 25 pink toe spiderlings.
LA
If you look real close, you can see the smile on this little guy's face.
LA
No one can have too much substrate from Zilla.
LA
Or spider caves from Zilla.
LA
And the main door prize also from Zilla.
LA
The crowd begins to build.
LA
You had to get close to see everything.
LA
Joe brought some of his own tarantulas from home. (Dollar bill was for
size.)
LA
Some more of the crowd starting to build.
LA
Still building.
LA
Now we're full.
LA
Standing room only at the back.
Epilogue:
TarantulaWeen 2010 Part 1 was a very
successful event for Aqualand customers -- so successful that Kellie said
"Let's do Snakesgiving again this year." I think we'd be pressed for
time, but we'll see what we can do. In the meantime we'll be working
on TarantulaWeen 2010
Part 2. This may take a little longer. Meanwhile,
here's a small preview from Joe's presentation: LA
LA
LA
We'll see if we can get the originals.

Coming soon -- in the works right now.
